PARIS ALONG THE SEINE, FALL 18
Situated north of the Ile de la Cite Saint Louis, an undulating form rises above the existing Seine promenade. Taking shape above the flood plain to mitigate unpredictable flooding of the river, the firm stilts itself to provide space below for rushing water, but also provide ample walking space during nicer weather. Aiming to enclose the boulevard, the form creates a sense of duality as one side creates an enclosed streetscape, while the other side reveals the Seine as well as intermediate spaces. The promenade is broken down into a sequence of spaces to be transformed throughout the seasons. The form is broken into two main parts, the service core along the existing embankment wall and piercing programmatic spaces that jut out from the existing street. The forms are punctured to allow for light and the idea of a single sided configuration. Paris Along the Seine aims to create a facade of continuity through an undulating wall that stitches the city and the river.
